UNESCO World Day for Audiovisual Heritage 2021

Declared by UNESCO in 2005, October 27 has been observed every year as World Day for Audiovisual Heritage to raise general awareness about the need to take urgent measures and to acknowledge the importance of audiovisual archives. We celebrate World Day for Audiovisual Heritage with our partners worldwide. This year the theme of this World Day is “Your Window to the World”. Audiovisual materials as documentary heritage objects provide a window to the world as we observe events we cannot attend, we hear voices from the past who can no longer speak, and we craft stories that inform and entertain. The UNESCO Archives has also launched the project “Digitizing our shared UNESCO history” to conserve this heritage and ensure it remains accessible to the public and future generations.
