New UNESCO publication highlights growth potential of Africa’s film industry

UNESCO will celebrate African cinema from 5 to 7 October with the launch of the publication The African Film Industry: Trends, Challenges and Opportunities for Growth. The publication is the fruit of an exploratory study launched in October 2020 by UNESCO on the film and audiovisual industry in Africa. For the first time, a complete mapping of this industry in the 54 countries of the African continent is available, including new quantitative and qualitative data. The publication allows us to better understand the challenges and needs of the sector and proposes a roadmap to assist States in the development and implementation of policies.
